Currently designing PK- 12 schools with ThenDesign Architecture located in Willoughby, Ohio as the project leader for the Richmond Heights Upper School Project, a 92,000sf, grade 7-12 building that will also host various community amenities including a county library branch.
James was recently the recipient of the Activism Award presented by the Cleveland Chapter of the American Institute of Architects in November 2018. This award is for making architecture and design accessible to disadvantaged communities throughout Cleveland, Ohio and for his mentoring efforts with the College Now Program and ACE (Architecture Construction Engineering) Mentorship Program.
In 2017 James was one of forty recipients under the age of 40 that was recognized by Crain’s Cleveland for his regional influence and impact in not only his career field but also in his community.

While in graduate school for architecture and after years of learning the importance of design communication and collaboration James and partner began a small graphic design startup called The House of Creation that focused on creating graphics, branding, packaging, illustrations, signage and more for small businesses. James most recently completed the branding for the 2021 AIA Cleveland Design Awards while serving on the design awards committee.
